Higashi Honganji is the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect “Shinshu Otani sect”. Shoseien Garden, located in the enclave across Karasuma-dori, is also known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms and autumn foliage.

The official Name is Shinshu Honbyo. The principal object of worship is Amida Nyorai, and it was opened based on the teachings of Shinran Shonin.
